Old Style Vanilla Ice Cream

4 eggs
2 1/4 cups sugar
5 cups milk
4 cups heavy cream
4 1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt

Beat eggs.  Gradually add sugar to eggs.  Continue to beat the mixture until it is very stiff.  Add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly.  Pour into freezer container (ice cream maker) and freeze.  Makes 4 quarts.
